Welcome to Imkerplein - why I am building this platform

Welcome to Imkerplein.

This is not a grand launch. No smokescreen of thousands of members, no shiny new app with millions in backing. It is a new Dutch place for beekeepers, built by one hobby beekeeper from Nieuwegein, simply because I felt it was needed.

Why I am building this

When I started beekeeping I quickly noticed how scattered the knowledge is. What seems obvious to that one experienced beekeeper in your local club is completely unknown to a beginner two villages away. Good information is buried in thick books that hardly anyone buys anymore, in closed Facebook groups, and at club evenings you only know about if you already know where to look.

Beekeeping is an ancient craft. From the Egyptians who kept bees 3,000 years before Christ, to the modern city beekeeper on an Amsterdam rooftop, the fascination is timeless. But the way we share that knowledge with each other can be much better.

What Imkerplein is, and what it is not yet

What it is: an open forum, a marketplace from beekeeper to beekeeper, a pinboard for casual greetings, and a blog with seasonal articles. No ads, no subscriptions, no middlemen.

What it is not yet: a lively community. As I write this, there are barely any members. That changes only once the first beekeepers start asking questions, giving answers and sharing their experience. Whoever signs up now helps shape what topics will grow big here, what tone we set, and what kind of place this becomes.
